The Edgar County Humane Association (ECHA) is an all volunteer organization that was formed in 2001. The ECHA has no facilities and relies on a foster home network to house and rehabilitate the rescue animals so they will be good pets. The fostering process requires people with big hearts, a love of animals and a great deal of patience because the animals they foster has most likely been abused. Much of the success of the ECHA can be given to the loving foster parents.
The original mission was to focus on the education about the value of spaying/neutering their pets and the humane treatment of animals, finding homes for homeless animals and helping care for the ill and injured strays. The mission has evolved into a rescue of stray and mistreated animals, spaying/neutering/medical treatment for the rescue animals, findings homes for the rescued animals, and helping care for pets whose parents can't afford proper care.
The ECHA funding is obtained from donations, fund raisers and pet adoption fees. The organization has had two major contributors, William Asher and Paul Warner. Without their generous help the ECHA would not still be assisting animals today. In 2008 the ECHA merged with the Paul Warner Animal Rescue to provide a concentrated focus for Edgar County.
An organization such as the ECHA is always short of volunteers, foster homes and most of all money. Help with any of these fore mentioned areas would be greatly appreciated. If you can help with one or more of the areas, please contact us at the address below.
One thing the ECHA is never short of is animals that need help. ECHA volunteers are busy trying to keep up with the never ending flow of dogs, cats and their offspring. We've planned several local fund raisers to help us help them. Events will be updated with dates and times as plans are finalized. We are desperately in need of funding for medical care and boarding for hurt and stray pets. Without the help of local citizens and business, these animals will not be given a second chance at a long and happy life.
The ECHA may not be able to save all of the homeless pets in our little piece of the world, but with your help we can make a big difference for some. There are few things more rewarding than seeing a new parent with their new pet. Try it, you may like it.
